Reiussued on MR BONGO the official pressing of a true hip-hop classic. Featuring per-haps one of the most impressive instrumentals ever committed to wax, Rammellzee & K-Rob's 'Beat Bop' and iconic Jean-Michel Basquiat artwork, is a track shrouded in mystery and an undisputed piece of true hip-hop genius.
In 1983, Jean-Michel Basquiat produced, directed, and issued the Rammellzee vs. K-Rob “Beat Bop” 12” on his own Tartown label, with cover and label artwork famously rendered by Basquiat him-self. Releasing the track was a natural step for Basquiat, whose passion for music led him to amass a wildly eclectic vinyl collection, co-found the experimental band Gray, and act as a DJ at the Mudd Club and at Area. Rammellzee (1960-2010) was a visual artist, graffiti writer, performance artist, hip hop musician and sculptor from New York City. He has stated that his name is derived from RAM plus M for Magni-tude, Sigma (Σ) the first summation operator, first L - longitude, second L - latitude, Z - z-bar, Σ, Σ - summation.
Long sought after as a "holy grail" rap vinyl, the original sealed copy has just been sold 126,000$ at Sothebys Hip Hop auction
